In this simple step by step tutorial I'm going to show you how to add custom brushes to Adobe Photoshop CS5.
Step 1. If you wonder where and how to get those new brushes, it is very simple. Just Google "free Photoshop CS5 brushes" and select one of the results. I'm gonna be using a web page called brusheezy(dot)com. When at this page, you have to select "brushes" tab and search what you are looking for, it is very important to select the right version of your Photoshop. Since I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS5, I will select CS5 and click "filter".
Step 2. Choose the one you like and click on it. It will bring you to download and preview page. Now you have two options, "download" and "preview". If you want to see what the brushes will actually look like, click "preview", if you want to download right away, click "download". Save the zip file to a destination of your own choice.
Step 3. Open the zip file you just downloaded and extract the .abr file to a destination of your own choice. I would recommend you to create a new folder called "brushes" on your desktop and extracting all the files there.
Step 4. Open your Photoshop, create new document and select basic brush tool. Now open up the brush preset picker's menu and choose "load brushes". Now find your .abr file and click "load". As you can see, your brush preset picker has added the new brushes.
That's it! Adding new brushes is very simple process. Just remember not to delete the .abr files or else your brushes will be gone. If you don't see your brush presets when reopening Photoshop, just repeat step 5. I really hope you enjoyed this tutorial and feel free to comment and ask questions.
